Xiamen University Malaysia

Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) opened its doors in 2016 as the first overseas branch campus established by a renowned Chinese public university, and the first Chinese university branch campus in Malaysia. Its parent institution, Xiamen University in Fujian, China, was founded in 1921 by the Chinese-Malaysian philanthropist Tan Kah Kee, so the campus is in many ways a homecoming of a century-old academic tradition to Southeast Asia. That heritage gives XMUM something few universities can offer international students: the resources and reputation of a major Chinese research university, delivered in English, on Malaysian soil.

The campus sits on a spacious, beautifully landscaped 150-acre site in Sepang, Selangor, just minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Putrajaya. Modelled on the famously scenic main campus in Xiamen, it is one of the greenest and most photogenic university campuses in Malaysia, with wide lawns, lakes, palm-lined walkways and modern purpose-built academic buildings. Teaching is conducted primarily in English, within a genuinely multicultural community of Malaysian, Chinese and international students.

XMUM is best known for its strengths in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), business and economics, engineering, computing and journalism/communication. It carries dual recognition from both the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and China's Ministry of Education, and its undergraduate degrees are approved Honours programmes. For students from Bangladesh, it is an appealing bridge to both a globally respected Chinese academic network and the affordable, English-medium, well-connected study destination that Malaysia is known for.
