About Universiti Malaya
Universiti Malaya (UM) is Malaysia's oldest and most prestigious university, tracing its roots to 1949 and standing today as the country's undisputed number one. Set on a leafy campus in Lembah Pantai, right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, UM is a full public research university where students from more than a hundred countries study alongside Malaysia's brightest. UM is ranked 58th in the QS World University Rankings 2026 — placing it comfortably among the global top 60 and making it the highest-ranked university in Malaysia by a clear margin. It is also 15th in Asia, and several of its subjects sit inside the world's top 100. For a Bangladeshi student, that means a genuinely world-class degree recognised everywhere, at public-university tuition that is a fraction of what a comparable ranking would cost in the UK, Australia or Singapore. As a public research university under Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education, UM offers strong programmes across medicine, engineering, law, business, science and the arts, with excellent research facilities and a graduate reputation that opens doors both in Malaysia and back home. It is the aspirational choice for high-achieving students who want the best value in the region.
